Under the business name Marissa A. Smeyne, Attorney at Law, Ms. Smeyne has spent multiple years in various areas of practice in which she applies her experience and skills in litigation, transactional needs, and administrative law. Ms. Smeyne provides appearance and contract services to Florida Attorneys and California Attorneys. Ms. Smeyne additionally provides various legal services to individuals, with the focus on estate planning and small business law.
Ms. Smeyne earned her undergraduate degree in health sciences from Towson State University in 1994. Ms. Smeyne spent the next six years working as an Admissions Director at several Maryland nursing homes. This gave her a first hand view of the health care and nursing home industry that later proved invaluable when she became an attorney focusing on elder abuse and nursing home neglect as well as medical malpractice.
After earning her Juris Doctor degree in 2003 from Western State University College of Law in Fullerton, California, Ms. Smeyne litigated nursing home and assisted living abuse and neglect cases in the California office of Wilkes & McHugh, P.A., a Florida based law firm. Ms. Smeyne continued litigating these cases at The Garcia Law Firm in California.
In 2007, Ms. Smeyne moved to the Orlando, Florida, area where she joined The Maher Law Firm. At The Maher Law Firm, Ms. Smeyne's practice expanded to also include medical malpractice and general liability cases. Although Ms. Smeyne was based out of The Maher Law Firm's Florida office, she continued to assist in cases out of the California office as well as handling cases in Florida.
Ms. Smeyne additionally gained experience in the area of Health Law when working with The Health Law Firm in Altamonte Springs, Florida. This experience included handling Administrative Law cases, Plaintiff and Defense litigation, and transactional work for health care providers and health care entities. Ms Smeyne continues to work with The Health Law Firm as an Of Counsel Attorney.
Ms. Smeyne is admitted to practice law in the States of Florida and California and before the Federal District Courts for the Middle District of Florida and the Central District of California.
